East Stroudsburg University is hiring a General Accountant! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU's proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to internships, careers and social activities. Just minutes from campus are the country's largest water parks, scenic Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area, Appalachian Trail, and other opportunities for recreational fun.

As the General Accountant, you will need to think creatively and be comfortable performing a variety of accounting tasks such as financial analysis, budget management, general ledger reconciliations and reports. You will be an active member of the Business Office team and will work closely with the Controller to build along with maintaining SAP cost and fund centers, and the capital inventory module. You will thrive in this role if you like combining your accounting and analytical skills while overseeing the technology fee for camps & conferences accounting. To be successful in this role, you must be detail oriented, adaptable, and a problem solver.

Your normal hours will be Monday to Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. You may have to flex your schedule from time to time based on the needs of the business to be a true General Accountant. When our team shows up for work, they are energized and motivated to succeed - all while being the most crucial piece to keeping the ESU operations humming.

What Will I Do At ESU? (AKA Essential Duties)
  • Perform a variety of accounting tasks which involve preparing financial analysis, budget management, general ledger reconciliations, journal entries, and reports.
  • Review all project related invoices for funds and correct coding prior to submitting to accounts payable.
  • Build and maintain SAP cost and funds centers.
  • Maintain the capital Inventory module in SAP including the accounting for additions and dispositions of University capital assets and provides analysis and reports suitable for audit.
  • Maintains low value asset inventory.
  • Responsible for surplus property, updating surplus property forms and maintaining the surplus property website.
  • Set up, maintain, and analyze Technology Fee projects and recurring expenditures.
  • Responsible for all accounting for camps and conferences:Reconcile camps & conferences, compute net profit/loss, prepare journal entries for chargebacks and corrections as needed, close out on yearly basis and prepare analysis as needed.
  • Performs the yearly audit of the ESU Storeroom and Warehouse inventory for the financial reports and auditors.
  • Research and correct reconciling items identified in an accurate and timely manner. Reconciles various general ledger accounts as assigned.
  • Ability to read, implement and maintain GAAP & GASB's standards as related to fixed assets and projects.
  • Provide support with the Student Account's Office daily deposit preparation.
  • Assists with the University's year-end audit, preparing analysis and reconciliations and providing documentation as requested by the auditors.
  • Completes special projects as assigned by the University's CFO, Controller and Director of Budget & Special Accounting.
  • Utilize the ERP and SIS systems to gather, process, maintain and report financial information.
  • Assist Controller with troubleshooting vendor/payment issues.
  • Provide support when departments have questions related to policy and procedures as well as appropriate use of account codes.
  • Assist the CFO, Controller & Director of Budget & Special Accounting with providing information to the external auditors to facilitate timely completion of the audit. Prepare schedules, reports, and reconciliations requested by the audit team in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Performs other reasonable and appropriate job-related duties as needed.
What We're Looking For (AKA Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field.
  • Minimum of three years' experience.
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • The ability to build and maintain effective working relationships within the campus community and external funders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with everyone within the campus community.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient skills with Microsoft Office Excel, Teams, and Word.
  • Experience in higher education and fund accounting preferred.
  • Experience using SAP, Banner, and fund accounting is preferred.
  • Prior experience with fixed asset accounting is preferred.
  • Able to read, write, and comprehend English; able to follow verbal instructions.
