Experience:

Prior surgical experience (Transplant, Cardiovascular, Surgical Oncology, Hepatopancreatobiliary preferred)

Strong surgical skills with OR experience in complex abdominal procedures both in open laparoscopic and robotic approach

Responsibilities:

Inpatient: The APP acts as the first assist in the OR dedicated to one provider and single campus location. The APP is responsible for: independent rounding on patients in the acute post operative phase who are admitted to the hospital, post operative wound care and pain management, timely collaboration with consulting physicians, coordinates discharge from the hospital, evaluation of new consults. Orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic tests, such as routine laboratory, X-ray, etc

OR: Support as surgical first assist, laparoscopic and robotic surgical support.

Outpatient: Evaluates new and existing patients in collaboration with staff physicians, as well as multidisciplinary team, completes outpatient documentation in a timely fashion, performs clinic procedures as applicable

Hours: Monday - Friday 7A-7P with flexibility

Shared night and weekend call: home call for surgical oncology service during the week, and weekend call with inpatient rounding as well as OR coverage for stat or emergency cases.

We are seeking an Advance Practice Provider (PA or NP) to support and help grow our Surgical Oncology practice specializing in Gastrointestinal cancers (gastric, pancreas, colorectal, hepatobiliary), Melanoma, and Sarcoma. This is a great opportunity to enhance your surgical skills working alongside busy Surgical Oncologists who enjoy mentoring and training individuals. Our practice works as a team in a collegial multidisciplinary atmosphere to provide the highest level of care to our cancer patients in their time of greatest need.

Qualifications

Strong communication skills

Strong medical decision-making skills

Strong clinical background with an emphasis on oncology, mainly in foregut, hepatobiliary and pancreatic related conditions

Master's degree in Physician Assistant (PA-C) Studies

2-4 years of experience as PA-C in Surgery practice

Required Licensure, Certification, and Registration:

Current, valid Florida PA license

NCCPA (or equivalent) certification

BLS, ACLS Certification

DEA Licensure

Detailed Responsibilities

Performs history and physical examinations of patient's evaluation and treatment of surgical oncology patients primarily in the inpatient setting at our Orlando campus

Monitors the patient's course of treatment and makes appropriate referral to either a physician or specialist, as needed

Exhibits autonomy in the operating room and hospital when required

Performs first assistant duties in the operating room

Writes postop orders in the recovery room, , performs post op procedures and more

Return phone calls of from patients

Collaborates with physician supervisor and staff, as necessary to provide consistent care to patients and support to staff, including hospital rounds and inpatient consults

Candidate will also see patients in the outpatient setting

Assist in preparing patient for surgery

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, patients, and the public
