As the primary designated mental health service on campus. Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) is a valued partner within the Well-Being Unit. The Well-Being Unit is an integral component of the Division of Student Affairs at Longwood University. In support of this mission, CAPS is seeking candidates for the position of Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) (GA322), with the skills and creativity to share our commitment to excellence and who would enhance the diversity of our staff. The Licensed Professional Counselor performs a variety of functions and works collaboratively with others in order to contribute to well-respected comprehensive counseling services The LPC provides clinical services (individual and group therapy; consultation and crisis response) to Longwood University students and provides training and clinical supervision to undergraduate interns and masters-level trainees. This position also performs campus and community outreach; shares rotating emergency/crisis on-call responsibilities; participates in University and Center meetings and committees; consults with faculty, staff, and students; develops and implements consultative relationships with other University units; and attends to professional development.

Those who have strong interpersonal skills and who enjoy building positive working relationships with others. Strong preference will be given to applicants with college/university counseling center experience and applicants with a background in supervision and training.


Requirements:
  • Master's degree in a counseling or psychology
  • Licensed Professional Counselor in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Evidence of well-developed skills in clinical diagnosis, psychotherapy/counseling, and crisis management
  • Demonstrate ability to work with diverse individuals in terms of identity and clinical presentation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills

Additional Information:


This position is a 10 month, full-time, administrative & professional faculty, exempt position with a preferred start date no later than August 2024. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. A successful fingerprint based criminal background investigation is required.
