Position Summary:
The Wayne D. McMurray School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Monmouth University seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Professional Counseling with a mental health focus, subject to budget allocation. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Counseling or Counselor/Counseling Education from a CACREP-accredited program (or ABD, with defense scheduled prior to start date).
The Department offers an MS and promotes knowledge of the profession, facilitates self-awareness of intersecting identities, and supports the acquisition of skills relevant to helping culturally-diverse client populations. As a department, we adhere to the American Counseling Association (ACA) Code of Ethics, which includes honoring our diverse voices, providing equitable access to all students, and integrating inclusive pedagogical practices across the curriculum. We are a long-standing CACREP-accredited program with a strong counselor identity. We pride ourselves in providing unique opportunities and specializations for our students and, as such, are seeking candidates who may add new options to our diverse curriculum.

Assistant professors teach a 3/3 course load (18 credits) per academic year. Candidates are expected to teach graduate-level courses, including introductory counseling courses, tests and assessments, psychopathology, clinical internship courses, etc. Additional responsibilities include advising students, departmental and university service, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, presenting at national and international conferences, assistance with CACREP assessment data collection and analysis, accreditation reporting and requirements, conducting interviews, and participation in department and university events and activities.

This is an in-person, on-campus, non-remote position.

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching graduate level courses
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse student populations





Preferred Qualifications:
  • Scholarly focus on addictions, marginalized populations, religion/spirituality, and/or justice-involved clients
  • License or license-eligible as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor in the State of New Jersey
  • Strong consideration will be given to candidates with unique areas of specialization such as drug and alcohol counseling, LGBTQ+, community counseling, policing/justice-involved, and/or couples and family counseling
