Position Summary:
Monmouth University is seeking applications for a Specialist Librarian - Reference & Instruction. This position is for the 2024-2025 academic year. Applications received by February 29, 2024 will receive fullest consideration. This position has a start date of 7/1/2024 or later, as necessary.This search will remain open until filled.

The Specialist Librarian is a two-year initial appointment with subsequent multi-year reappointments possible. The position's primary responsibilities include providing tutorials and research instruction sessions to faculty and their classes, service as liaison to one or more academic departments, staffing the research assistance desk, and creating subject or course-based research guides.

  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree from an ALA-accredited school.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a diverse environment and with a diverse employee and student population.
  • Ability and willingness to adapt quickly to technological change; learn and use new applications and software to assist in their role as librarian.
  • Possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Able to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Ability to take initiative and meet deadlines.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience within a library or higher education setting, participating in an information literacy or library instruction program in an academic library,
  • Service as a library liaison to one or more specific academic departments or disciplines.
  • Has engaged in library-related professional service.
