Job Description:
The successful manager of the coffeeshop will be an energetic, organized, visionary individual with previous coffeeshop experience, and an entrepreneurial mindset. Responsibilities for this position include:

  • hiring, training, supervising, evaluating, coaching and – if necessary – terminating staff

  • scheduling shifts for baristas and wait staff

  • create and manage menu – adding new/seasonal menu items based on customer’s preferences in order to grow customer base and foster customer loyalty

  • manage day-to-day operations, especially ensuring the shop is clean, tidy, and sanitary at all times

  • maintaining daily expenses and revenues records, and compiling monthly P&L reports

  • timely ordering of supplies (coffee, milk, prepared food items, teas, boba, paper products, etc.)

  • develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers

  • interact favorably with faculty, staff, students, and campus visitors as coffeeshop customers (regulars); resolve issues, address problems proactively, and establish a welcoming atmosphere for patrons and staff alike

  • maintain staff morale through clear expectations, strong communication, and creating a fun workplace experience

  • regular communication with immediate supervisor

To be successful in this role you should have work experience with various roles in coffee shops. Also, you should be available to work during opening hours, including weekends and holidays. Due to the vision for a 7-day coffeeshop operation, hiring of an assistant manager will be an early goal once the shop is launched.

Ultimately, the manager’s function is to help increase profitability, boost customer engagement; and turn the coffeeshop into a favorite hangout location on campus.

Primary Purpose:
Cypress College is reopening a coffeeshop space on campus and we are looking for a manager to establish our site, prepare permitting applications and licensure for the operation of the coffeeshop, hire and train baristas, launch an opening, and organize daily operations and motivate staff to provide excellent customer service. Cypress College is a dynamic, caring campus community, and a great place to work. Come join our team!
