Job Description
Under general supervision and direction of departmental supervisor, provides transportation services which align with campus transit needs and support university student, faculty, staff and guest travel activities. Represents Transportation & Parking Services as a field ambassador providing excellent customer service in correlation with safe, efficient and reliable transport.
- Adheres to all OSHA and/or Ohio University/federal/state required safety guidelines and DOT operating requirements.
- Chartered Travel – operates CDL vehicles (30-55 passenger) and provides chartered services for university travel purposes which may include out-of-state and multi-day travel. Provides transportation for passengers, and assists with handling of equipment/luggage, materials and supplies. Assists with route planning and maintains proper transportation documentation to ensure compliance with position requirements. Adheres to all university, state and federal laws, regulations and safety protocols.
- Campus Transit Support – operates transportation services for students, faculty/staff and visitors of Ohio University to include scheduled university routes, on-demand transportation resources, accessibility transport and special event accommodations. Provides superior customer service and safe, efficient transport to customers to support campus travel needs. Assists with transportation dispatching and ride request scheduling as needed based on transportation request demand utilizing scheduling software and associated technology to meet transportation needs. Operates a variety of transit vehicles ranging in size from sedans to 14 passenger vehicles.
- Vehicle Inspection & Service Upkeep – Responsible for vehicle cleaning, inspection and general maintenance duties associated with university fleet to include washing and fueling of vehicles. Performs routine vehicle service and may perform limited maintenance activities. Maintains records of work performed and necessary travel and service documentation. May perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum of 1 year commercial driving experience
- Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger and airbrake endorsements is required*
- Skill in operation and maintenance of motor vehicles is required
- Must possess and demonstrate excellent customer service skills
- Ability to carry out instructions in written, oral, and pictorial form
- Work independently or with others
- Demonstrated willingness to work with diverse populations
- Read & write common vocabulary in sentence structure; add, subtract, multiply & divide whole numbers, calculate fractions, decimals & percentages
- Ability to apply principles to solve practical problems
- Knowledge of all applicable OSHA and/or Ohio University safety guidelines and procedure
- Successful completion of assigned tests may be required
- Candidates must possess and maintain a safe driving record and pass required physicals, background checks and drug/alcohol screenings during course of employment
- May be exposed to inclement weather
- maybe exposed to dirt, grease, odors, extreme hot or cold temperatures, vehicular emissions, and hazardous traffic areas
