General Summary:
To create an educational program and a classroom environment that is fair, is favorable to learning and growth, and is based on a commitment that all children can learn.
Responsibilities:
Classroom
- Organize and supervise assigned classes for optimum educational learning.
- Provide grade appropriate instructional programs.
- Assessment of each student’s performance including testing, teacher observation, interim reports, report cards and parent conferences.
- Communicate with student’s parents so as to assure parents are fully aware of the religious, academic, and social progress being made by each student.
- Follow content and objectives from the school’s established course/subject goals.
- Keep records in accordance with school set policy.
- Lead students in music for Mass and other liturgical celebrations. Direct choir as appropriate. Manage music for school programs, concerts and promotional ceremonies.
- Attend facility meetings and other meetings as needed.
- Lesson planning and class room preparation.
Instruction
- Utilize valid teaching techniques to achieve curriculum goals within the framework of school’s philosophy.
- Employ a variety of instructional aids, methods, and materials that will provide for creative teaching to reach the whole child; spiritual, mental, physical, social, and emotional.
- Plan through approved channels the balanced classroom us of field trips, guest speakers, and other media.
- Use homework effectively for drill, review, enrichment, or project work.
- Assess the learning of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Understanding of the vision and values of Sacred Heart Southern Missions with a commitment to achieve the goals of the organization.
- Must have a basic understanding and acceptance of Catholic school philosophy, goals, and objectives.
- Must have necessary background and training in elementary/secondary education methods and subject areas.
- Must have understanding of child development and skills necessary to relevant to the grade level being taught.
- Must have appropriate control and discipline techniques, which will enhance the learning situation.
- BA or BS in elementary education and appropriate MDE state licensure and endorsement(s) in Music education (125, 166).**
- Ability to work and interact with other staff members to accomplish overall organizational and departmental goals.
- Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication and decision-making skills. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, especially Word, Google Classroom and Outlook.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision/instruction. Able to establish and meet deadlines.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Knowledge of Catholic liturgical music would be a plus.
**Sacred Heart Southern Missions pay scale mirrors that of the Mississippi Department of Education. Your degree and years of teaching experience drive your starting salary.
Physical Demands:
Work is generally in a school setting with some outside activities. Some work with computer requires sitting for some periods; using hands to handle objects, lift objects or materials of up to 30 pounds. Moderate walking, stooping, bending, reaching and sitting for extended periods may be required as a normal part of the job. Must be able to use telephone (hear and speak).
Reasonable Accommodations:
To successfully accomplish the essential job functions of the position, the employee must be able to read, write and speak in English, operate a computer and travel throughout a six county area. Lifting up the thirty pounds is essential for this position; repetitive wrist motion cannot be accommodated.
Salary: $19.95 - $32.00 per hour
