As a member of the Division of Undergraduate Education, the Educational Partnership Center (EPC) provides an array of school-centered and student-centered activities for students, parents, faculty, and community members across Monterey Bay and Silicon Valley.

The EPC coordinates new and long-standing student academic preparation efforts of the University of California, Santa Cruz with the goal of increasing access and opportunity to postsecondary education for students across our service area. The EPC provides support to faculty, staff, and outreach groups to work collaboratively with schools, universities, and community colleges to promote an educational pipeline for success for all students.

The EAOP and GEAR UP projects, both under the umbrella of the EPC, serve under-represented, low-income students with the goal of increasing the participation rate of program/cohort participants in post-secondary education. EAOP serves the Pajaro Valley region and Monterey County. GEAR UP operates in the Pajaro Valley region, South Monterey County, and Monterey County.

JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the EAOP & GEAR UP Assistant Director, the Lead College Facilitator will coordinate and implement EAOP/GEAR UP activities and services at assigned schools. They are the primary contact and team leader of EAOP/GEAR UP direct services at times supervising one to three college facilitators and several undergraduate interns. The incumbent will plan and lead efforts to increase the number of educationally disadvantaged and/or low-income students who attain eligibility and competitiveness for admission to colleges and universities and provide educational services designed to motivate middle and high school students to prepare academically for higher education. The incumbent will be responsible for providing outreach services at one or more partner middle(s) and/or high school(s) in the designated area and/or surrounding service area.

Responsible for the design, planning, and implementation of a component of an academic preparation program. Establishes new organizational relationships with K-14 and higher education institutions. Assignments require advanced knowledge of highly complex or technical information. May have supervisory responsibility.

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

Budgeted Salary: $75,000 - $81,000/Annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.
Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. The salary shown above is the budgeted amount the University reasonably expects to pay and the salary extended should not exceed this posted amount.

JOB DUTIES

20% - College Preparation Services

  • Provides leadership for the design and implementation of college preparation services and culture to a district, including training K-14 school district faculty and staff.


20% - High School Student Advising

  • Provides complex academic advising.
  • Develops partnerships / networks with K-12, higher education institutions, and community organizations.


15% - Partnerships

  • Develops partnerships/networks with K-12, higher education institutions, and community organizations.
  • Plans and organizes a set of district-wide or regional college-going events and activities.


15% - Program and fundraising

  • Oversees program component and activity budgets.
  • Assists with fundraising and proposal writing.


10% - Strategic Leadership

  • Provides leadership in strategic and program planning efforts.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of K-12 and higher education policies and issues, assesses their impact on program strategies, and disseminates information to the school site and district personnel.


10% - Coordination

  • Organizes meetings with school site personnel and service providers regarding major whole school, district, and regional efforts.


10% - Recruitment

  • Assists in recruitment and hiring of professional, student, and / or temporary staff.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Comprehensive experience advising and supporting educationally disadvantaged students regarding postsecondary opportunities and careers.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience working with educational equity programs serving a diverse student population. Demonstrated cultural competency with respect to race, ethnicity, and socio-economic status.
  • Advanced knowledge of K-12 and higher education institutions (UC, CSU, CC, etc.), admissions and financial aid and scholarship requirements, and matriculation processes.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with school district administrators, school counselors, principals, teachers, and community contacts. Ability to develop outreach programs, and design effective materials.
  • Advanced knowledge of high school graduation and college entrance requirements.
  • High-level skills in communicating clearly and effectively verbally.
  • High-level skills in communicating clearly and effectively in writing.
  • Advanced knowledge of issues facing low-income, first generation youth.
  • Ability to interpret policies and procedures to youth, parents, and school representatives.
  • Ability to prioritize work assignments and manage multiple critical projects with deadlines. Strong project management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Experience designing, implementing and monitoring academic/enrichment programs or events.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bilingual written and verbal (English/Spanish).
  • Advanced knowledge of up-to-date information on K-12 and higher education policies and issues. Ability to assess their impact on program strategies.
  • Knowledge of state and national education policies and current education theories.


SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
  • Ability to perform essential physical job functions.
  • The selected candidate will be required to work primarily on campus, with periods of remote work possible based on operational needs, and be able to fulfill requirements of the UCSC telecommuting agreement.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as directed.
  • Ability to travel to multiple work locations on and off campus.
  • Ability to travel within a defined regional or service area.
