Job Description
The Department of Computer Science at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) invites applications for a non-tenure-track teaching position, or a visiting faculty position, in Computer Science at the assistant or associate teaching professor level based on credentials, beginning Fall 2023. Salary is competitive and dependent upon qualifications.
Position Requirements and Responsibilities
- The non-tenure-track teaching position has teaching and service components. The visiting position may include a research component.
- Responsibilities will include teaching 3 to 4 courses per semester in Computer Science based on the candidate's strength and experience, at a level based on the specific appointment.
- We seek applicants who value and are able to foster a sense of belonging for students from all backgrounds and contribute to a welcoming and inclusive culture in the classroom and department.
- The department seeks applicants with proven teaching ability in Computer Science and with good communications skills.
- A minimum of a Master's degree is required in Computer Science or a closely-related discipline, with some experience in computing and teaching. A Ph.D. can substitute for the experience.

The Department of Computer Science strives to provide and promote the highest quality of research and teaching in computer science and its related areas, as well as to provide outreach and service to the campus, the community, the state of Missouri, and the nation. We strive to provide students with opportunities to advance their careers and become productive members of a local and global society. Our mission is also to help create new knowledge, by fostering computational science research – foundational and applied – that will lead to improving the quality of life for all, and to mentor the next generation of professionals in the field of computer science.
At present, the department has 15 full-time faculty members, about 10 adjuncts, and about 10 graduate teaching and research assistants. The department offers Bachelor's degrees in Computer Science, Computing Technology, Cybersecurity, and Data Science; Master's degrees in Computer Science and Cybersecurity; and Ph.D. in Mathematical and Computational Sciences. In addition, the department offers certificates in Computer Programming, Artificial Intelligence, Mobile Apps and Computing, Internet and Web, Cybersecurity, and Data Science. The department has close to 500 undergraduate majors and close to 100 graduate students.
