Job Description

Health, Counseling, and Disability Access Services are seeking a Clinical Director for Counseling Services to be responsible for providing oversight, vision, and leadership for clinical services, and coordinating the day to day operations of an active and inclusive university counseling center.

Job Duties Include:
  • Serve as a key member of the HCDAS leadership team and contribute to the development and implementation of goals, philosophies, and vision.
  • Develop clinical policies and procedures to best meet the psychological needs of students.
  • Oversee adherence to clinical policies and procedures.
  • Analyze center data related to clinical services and utilization and provide data driven decision-making to determine changes to clinical services to best serve the student population.
  • Ensure adherence with legal and ethical standards relevant to the provision of psychological services and serve as a resource for clinical staff (including psychologists, professional counselors, and social workers) around these issues.
  • Ensure quality control regarding clinical services, case disposition, and service demand.
  • Provide insight, consultation, and outreach services to the UMSL community on matters related to mental health and wellness including serving as a back-up to the Director.
  • Contribute to the selection, recruitment, supervision, training, and continuing education of Counseling Services staff and trainees.
  • Provide clinical and administrative supervision for Counseling staff.
  • Perform crisis and consultation services during regular business hours that require complex clinical decision making as part of a crisis team.
  • Provide culturally competent therapeutic interventions including brief individual and group therapy to treat a broad range of presenting psychological concerns and diagnoses.
  • Serve on relevant HCDAS and/or University committees as appropriate.
  • The successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal, oral, and written skills; value a multifaced approach involving linked clinical and training efforts; show a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, campus partners, and student groups; have a commitment to actively engage in practice with diverse populations (racial/ethnic, LGBTQ+, ability, gender, SES, and beyond); interpersonal flexibility with a sense of humor; an awareness of the importance of life balance and a commitment to the importance of the developmental perspective of counseling services.

Shift

Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 6 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of Master's degree in Psychology, Counseling, or Social Work.
  • Must be full licensed as a mental health care provider in Missouri, or if fully licensed in another status, licensure within 6 months of beginning the position.
  • Provisional licensure is not accepted. Total of 5 or more years as a licensed mental health clinician. Experience as a clinical and administrative supervisor.
  • Two years full-time experienced as a licensed clinician in a college or university counseling center.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion, competence in working with culturally and ethnically diverse populations.
  • Enthusiastic support for, and demonstrated experience in, an integrated practice model of care is essential.
  • Highly effective and demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills that allow for effective interaction with clients, parents, faculty, staff, administrators, medical, mental health, and other colleagues and professionals.
  • Ability to support and motivate clinical and administrative support staff. Understanding of organizational systems and the ability to work collaboratively and creatively with individuals from a wide range of professional disciplines.
  • Ability to carry out complex administrative tasks to include decision making, planning, problem solving, negotiation, resource allocation, and change management
  • Must be able to take initiative, operate independently, and be comfortable making decisions in a fast-paced environment
Anticipated Hiring Range

Pay commensurate with education and experience.
Hiring Range: $75,000-$90,000 Annual
Grade: GGS-12
University Title: DIR I STUDENT SUPPORT SVCS
