Essential Functions: The Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management (PSEM) includes the following departments: University of Pittsburgh Police (UPPD) both Pittsburgh and Regional campuses, Department of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), Department of Integrated Security (ISD), and the Department of Emergency Management. This position reports directly to the Vice Chancellor of PSEM (VC PSEM). Assists the VC PSEM in overseeing, leading and supervising the University of Pittsburgh's PSEM to protect the safety and well- being of the University's students, faculty, and staff as well as the surrounding community. This includes responsibility for safety related oversight of all campus community members, owned and leased buildings on an urban, 145 acre, research oriented campus, as well as the University's four regional campuses in Bradford, Greensburg, Johnstown, and Titusville, PA. Responsibility also extends to multiple off campus locations within Allegheny County. The AVC PSEM position will also directly oversee the Department of Integrated Security. Responsible for the oversight and strategic research, design, implementation, and administration for all University security systems across all five campuses, and off campus facilities. Works with University departments to develop and implement new or upgraded security systems. Acts as a primary liaison to the external resources to provide consulting services and equipment distribution to the University regarding security systems. Manages and oversees supervision of all ISD staff members, setting priorities for staff, and development of departmental strategy. The AVC PSEM position will manage the Threat Assessment Team which is committed to improving the safety of the University of Pittsburgh community through a proactive, collaborative, and coordinated approach to the prevention, identification, assessment, intervention, and management of situations that may reasonably pose a threat to the safety and well-being of the University of Pittsburgh community.
Physical Effort: Must be able to work on campus and travel to campus buildings and regional campuses as required. Must be able to navigate/move about campuses.
