POSITION: Vermilion Parish Coastal Advocate for the Vermilion Parish Police Jury

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of 5 years coastal administration and/or coastal related work experience

BONUS QUALIFICATIONS: Additional consideration for Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Coastal or Civil Engineering, Biology, No table of contents entries found. Natural Resources or a related field.

BASE SALARY: Based on Experience

HOURS: Up to 15 hours a week

JOB REQUIREMENTS: • Coastal administration and/or coastal work experience, preferably with knowledge and experience of working along the coast and with coastal authorities, coastal groups and other coastal partners and interests • Basic knowledge of principles in coastal restoration and prevention impacts on coastal communities, knowledge of laws pertaining to public administration, governmental ethics, familiarity in computer systems and programs, and skills in public speaking and interpersonal relations with the public and stake holders • Must be willing to travel as the job requires and possess a valid driver’s license • Have necessary tools, computer and cell phone to be able to work from home • Must be self-motivated and passionate about protecting and restoring Vermilion Parish’s coast

JOB DUTIES: • Research and monitor parish, state and federal politics and policy issues for relevance to Vermilion Parish and coastal restoration efforts and help develop key policy materials for such issues. Participate in relevant forums and committees. • Participate and represent the Parish on influential federal or state regulatory and legislative committees/work groups, such as the Chenier Plain Coastal Restoration and Protection Authority, Coastal Protection & Restoration Authority (CPRA), Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana, Parishes Against Coastal Erosion (PACE), Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Organization (CWPPRA), Southwest Coastal, Louisiana Watershed Initiative, etc. • Enhance the awareness and reputation of Vermilion Parish’s coastal restoration efforts through the attendance at political and community events • Assist local/state/federal agencies in violation, monitoring, wetland value assessments, etc. • Identify and implement strategies that restore the coast and marshes, prevent erosion, stabilize the shoreline, and reduce local flood hazards. • Coastal Project Management and general knowledge of contracts for all parish coastal activities funded with local/state/federal funds. Work closely with engineers and contractors. • Draft comment letters and provide public testimony of projects and answer calls for information related to coastal activities in Vermilion Parish • Identify and pursue funding opportunities, including grants, private sponsorships and government funding in relation to implementing coastal projects • Attend Vermilion Parish Coastal Committee meetings to report on projects, funding sources, related coastal activities, information from other agencies and other information related to the coast to educate and assist committee in making decisions about coastal projects. • Work with Vermilion Parish Drainage Districts when or if related to coastal projects • Other job-related duties as required.
